Assemblies vary in number and content. They are used to enhance classroom instruction. We usually have one a quarter. Books and Bagels – Jessica Gearhart
Books and Bagels is an event that occurs before school, 7:00 AM. It is an opportunity for parents to show the importance of reading to their children by bringing a book and spending the morning reading with their child(ren) and enjoying complimentary bagels from the PTA.
Box Tops, Campbells Labels for Education, and My Coke Rewards - Stacy Becerra
This is an easy way to earn extra cash for the PTA. Simply by cutting out box top labels, found on many products you already purchase, and turning them into your teacher we earn 10 cents per label.
Book Fairs – Mel Ragadio and Patti Growx
Scholastic brings books to Casillas for everyone to look over and purchase. Teachers’ wish lists are displayed so parents can purchase books that teachers would like for their classrooms.
Casillas Connection – Debbie Doan and Jamie Doan
This is a monthly newsletter distributed through electronic mail to all participating members to communicate information and ongoing activities sponsored by the PTA on campus.
e-script/ Ralphs Club - (VACANT)
eScrip is proven to be a fantastic resource for fundraising where participating business partners contribute a percentage of your grocery loyalty cards, credit card, and debit/ATM card purchases to the school, group or organization of your choice. Simply register your card(s), buy as you usually do, and earn money for the school.
Environmental Protection – Tina Rodriguez and Dina Crawford
Our goal is to identify and develop a school-wide environmental protection project which would include selling environmentally friendly, reusable bags and setting up a recycling program.
Fall Festival – Susan Leibold and Simone LaBlanc
This is a successful and fun annual event at Casillas. Many booths are set up for children to play carnival type games, do an art project, etc. Tickets are sold in order to participate at the booths and prizes are won.
Holiday Gift Shop – Jamie Doan and Crystal Clumfoot
The holiday gift shop programs lets children experience the thrill of buying gifts “secretly” for family and friends. All gifts are child priced so everyone can participate.
Membership - Teresa Grojean and Bertha Reyes
The membership committee establishes the membership goals; design the membership and outreach promotion; and plan yearlong duties and activities.
Military Appreciation/Patriotic Day – Tina Rodriguez and Dina Crawford
We have a very large number of military families at Casillas. We would like to honor Military Personal and their families and recognize those children whose mother/father is deployed. Military Appreciation month is May.
Movie Night – Maria Rubalcaba and Adriana Colcleaser
Movie night is usually once a quarter. We obtain a license to show a family friendly movie to all students and their families. Snacks and drinks are available.
PEP - Parents Empowering Parents - (VACANT)
This committee sets up parent education and involvement programs. This guide contains information and ideas to help promote PTA leadership to build strong home-school partnerships; assist parents with techniques to use in supporting their children’s efforts in school and enhance parents skills in working with their own children.
Read-a-thon - (VACANT)
This is one of our biggest fundraisers and it is held in the beginning of the year. The money collected for this event helps to fund all the programs that we have listed above. The students spend the day reading and having volunteers come to school to read to them. It is a beach theme and children are encouraged to dress “beach style.” The day ends with a school-wide picnic.
Red Ribbon Week – Simone LaBlanc and Tina Rodriguez
This event occurs in the month of October. During this week we have events that encourage children to live drug-free lives.
Reflections – (VACANT)
The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students. The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme, while increasing community awareness on the importance of the arts in education.
Restaurant Fundraising - (VACANT)
Restaurant fundraisers are a great way to build community involvement. Each month, we work with a restaurant that offers to give us a percentage of the sales from people who bring in flyers stating that they are supporting Casillas.
Rocket Readers – (VACANT)
Rocket Reader volunteers are parents and community members who contribute a set time one day each week assisting students who just need a little extra attention to bring them up to grade level standards. All volunteers are trained on reading strategies. This positive one-on-one interaction with students is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to our school community. Readers are always needed!
Room Representative Coordinator – (VACANT)
School Supply Donation Drive - (VACANT)
We need someone to work with the school staff to come up with a way to make sure that classroom teachers have what they need in order to effectively teach our children.
Science Discovery Day – (VACANT)
This committee will work with staff to help obtain and organize volunteers, buy and set up food for staff and volunteers, and act as a liaison between the Science team and parents.

Spring Fundraiser - (VACANT)
